The Dublin Academy of Education is running a number of summer camps in 2019. These summer camps are open to students entering both 5th & 6th Year in September 2019.

Our Summer Camps are five day intensive courses held in our school in Stillorgan, South Dublin. Students who attend will cover off the key topics they need to know to best prepare them for the Leaving Certificate syllabus when they return to school. Our leading teachers provide H1 study notes that are exam focused and will identify probable exam questions and also show students how to master the marking scheme, which instils confidence.

The Academy is running Summer Camps in French, Irish, Maths and Spanish.

The Dublin Academy of Education’s five day comprehensive French course is customised to introduce students to higher level French at senior cycle, this will put students on the front foot on their return to school. This course is for for 5th & 6th Year students (Leaving Cert 2020/2021).

Students can immerse themselves in the language in the comfort of The Academy’s surroundings and receive exam focused guidance from our skilled teachers who know how to make the marking scheme work for students.

All aspects of the Leaving Cert examination paper will be covered, including;

  • Oral work
  • Listening comprehension
  • Reading comprehension
  • Written production, letters, emails, notes, diary entries and reaction pieces

Katie Lenehan holds a degree in French and Spanish, and a Professional Masters in Education. Her training as a teacher was based on the most up to date education models and methodologies and is designed to ensure all students are catered for and can reach their goals in the most efficient way possible. Her knowledge of languages and linguistics, as well as teaching in some of the most prestigious schools in Dublin, will ensure that students obtain the best possible grades in their exams.

Irish

This Irish course has been designed by our State Examiner Séadhan De Poire so that students will feel that they have been to the Gaeltacht without leaving the comfort of their home. This course will help students improve both oral fluency and pronunciation. The subject will be turned into a living language and students will gain more confidence in their own ability to converse in Irish.

By the end of the course each student will have detailed individual notes for the Irish oral from a State Examiner. The oral is worth 40 % of the overall result in Irish.

The course will also prepare students for the Aiste [which is worth 17%] by showing them the techniques required to formulate, structure and compose essay on topical and current affairs.

Course Content

Paper 1 :

(1) Aiste,  (2) Alt , (3) Díospóireacht

Paper 2 :

  • Comprehension -> Answering skills, techniques to improve time management, vocabulary and sample answers.
  • Poetry -> Answering skills, vocabulary, exam questions and sample answers.

Gramadach :

  • All aspect of grammar will be covered in great detail.

Aural comprehension:

  • Vocabulary
  • Past exam questions and sample answers.
  • Teaching and understanding of the marking schemes
  • Exercises to improve fluency.

Oral :

  • Student will leave the course feeling refreshed and confident in the subject knowing that all the notes needed for the Irish oral (40%) will have been taught ,explained and mastered.

About the teacher: Séadhan De Poire
Séadhan is specialised in providing his Irish students with a clear, fundamental understanding of the language and its marking scheme. His style of teaching is focused on covering the curriculum in a concise way, so all his students have the tools to successfully manage the likely exam questions. He is a popular teacher due to his ability to stimulate students’ interest in the subject. Séadhan has worked with the state examinations commission correcting exam papers and last year was an Oral Examiner for the leaving certificate. He has also taught in the Gaeltacht in Coláiste Ciarán and Coláise Ó Direáin.

Maths

The Dublin Academy of Education’s five day comprehensive Maths course is customised to introduce students to higher level Maths at senior cycle. This course is for for 5th & 6th Year students (Leaving Cert 2020/2021). Our intensive five day course with David Lewis covers the key topics and techniques necessary for students.

Students attending this course will receive:

–       Multiple booklets of our renowned study notes.

–       20 hours of tuition.

–       Advice on how to master the critically important marking scheme. Knowing this by September will ensure that students’ study time during the year is as efficient as possible, as they will be shown precisely what the examiner is looking for.

About the teacher: David’s ability to relate to students has resulted in him becoming a popular teacher at The Academy. His teaching methods are unique and are tailored to the Maths Syllabus. David is a member of the Irish Mathematics Teachers’ Association and is specialised in providing students with a clear, fundamental understanding of the syllabus. As an examination corrector in Biology and Maths, David is adept at understanding the mistakes for which students frequently lose marks.

Spanish
