Q. Who should go to the full-time school Open Evening?
We suggest both parents and students who are interested in our full-time school attend one of the Open Evenings.

Q. Is there Career Guidance at The Academy?
Yes. All students will have a mandatory session with our Career Guidance expert at the beginning of 5th and 6th Year. This is to ensure that all students are fully aware of all course options available to them and are making an informed decision about their CAO.

Q. How is the school day structured?

  • School opens at 8:00am (study room open also)
  • All students must be in school by 9:30am
  • Lunch 12:30pm to 1:30pm
  • School finishes 4:30pm (note: depending on subject choice, some students may have evening classes)

Q. How long are the classes?
Classes are 1-hour in duration.

Q. How many subjects can you take at the school?
Students can take as many subjects as they wish. We’d recommend no more than eight.

Q. Can I sample the weekly grinds classes before signing up for the full-time school?
Yes, we recommend you do so as it will give you a chance to see exactly what our teachers are like.

Q Is Agricultural Science regarded as a laboratory Science subject?
Yes.

Q. Is there is a uniform?
No, Students can wear what clothes they are most comfortable in.

Q. Are lockers provided?
Yes. Each student will have their own locker.

Q. Will there be Mock Exams?
Yes. Mocks will take place a three times during the school year.

Q. Are there extra-curricular activities available?
The primary focus of our school is academics, however, we will be offering students the opportunity to take part in physical exercise groups, debating clubs, music, outdoor team building events and many more planned activities. We will also be hosting a Debs for 6th Year students post Leaving Certificate.

Q. Are there Scholarships available?
No. We do not offer scholarships at The Dublin Academy of Education.

Q. What are the class sizes?
It all depends on the subject but we expect classes to be similar in size to current day schools, if not smaller.

Q. What supervised study facilities do you have?
All Academy students will have unlimited access to our supervised study facilities. We have supervised study in our school between the following hours:

  • Monday & Tuesday 8am – 9pm
  • Thursday & Friday 8am – 9pm
  • Saturday 9am – 4pm
  • Sunday 10am – 4pm

Q. What are the options in relation to lunch facilities?
There will be a lunchroom for students who bring in a packed lunch and a common area for students also. There will also be vending machines throughout the school for students looking to have a snack.

Q. Will absenteeism be reported?
Yes, we do a roll call every morning in the school, and after lunch. If a student is absent a parent will be notified immediately.

Q. Do you provide information on accommodation?
Yes, we provide information on accommodation but do not organize it.

Q. Is there continuous assessment?
Yes, continuous assessment takes place in all of our classes. There is also written homework and students take regular tests. Parents will be able to access these scores on Vsware – our online platform.

Q. Are science practicals available?
Yes, practicals are available in Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Home Economics and Physics.

Q. Can I sit my Leaving Certificate at The Dublin Academy of Education?
Yes.

Q. Is the cost of the Leaving Certificate included in the full-time school fees?
No, this is not included in our school fees.
