About these courses

Due to demand, we are running 5-Hour Crash Courses at the end of May and the beginning of June. These courses give students the best possible advantage as they prepare for the Junior Certificate. One last ounce of effort could make all the difference.

Business Studies

This course will give students the tools necessary to excel in the upcoming exam. Students will have an insight into the questions that will most likely appear. The course will be extremely exam-focused. The following topics will be covered in detail:

About the Teacher : Carl Brien brings his reputation as an authority on the Business Studies Syllabus to The Dublin Academy of Education. He is a popular teacher amongst students due to his mastery of the marking scheme, and is well-known for his ability to stimulate students’ interest in Business Studies. Carl teaches in a systematic and clear way that relates to students, with an ability to motivate his students that is unique.

English

This course is built on the fact that almost half of all the questions students will be answering on is material that they have never seen before. Students will receive fully worked notes and past paper examples of the most popular questions. All notes place a heavy emphasis on the value of understanding the marking scheme, and on using that knowledge to write a well-structured answer for the examiner.

Gavin CowzerAbout the teacher: Gavin Cowzer is regarded as a leading English teacher in this country. Having developed a passion for this subject, including obtaining a Master’s degree, Gavin’s teaching style is focused on covering the syllabus in a concise way, so that students have the tools to successfully manage the likely exam questions. His experience correcting exams gives his students an edge in a subject which is often assumed to be an art. However it is clear that there is a strict science behind doing well in the English exam and Gavin’s students will be guided by this little-known fact.

French

Students will be given an insight into the DOs and DON’Ts for exam day, focusing on simple shortcuts to raise their grade and avoid common mistakes. The course will focus on all aspects of the written exam. The following topics will be covered in detail:

About the Teacher: Lisa Fitzpatrick is the Head of the Foreign Languages Department at The Dublin Academy of Education. She has written several Leaving Certificate textbooks, and is a member of the French Teachers' Association of Ireland. Lisa has given teaching workshops to teachers nationwide.

Irish

This course is designed with the key objective of making this exam more approachable for students through developing universal answers which will cover them for any question which may appear in June. Students will receive an exam day plan highlighting the DOs and DON’Ts for exam day, focusing on simple techniques that they can use to raise their grade. The following topics will be covered:

About the Teacher : Séadhan Perry is specialised in providing students with a clear, fundamental understanding of the syllabus and marking scheme. His teaching style is focused on covering the curriculum in a concise way so that students have the tools to successfully manage the likely exam questions. Séadhan is a popular teacher due to his ability to stimulate students' interest in the subject. Séadhan has worked with the state examinations commission correcting exam papers and last year was an Oral examiner for the leaving certificate. He has also taught in the Gaeltacht in Coláiste Ciarán and Coláise Ó Direáin.

As a member of the Irish Mathematics Teachers' Association, he is a popular teacher amongst students due to his mastery of the Project Maths Syllabus, and is well-known for his ability to stimulate students' interest in Maths.


 

About the Teacher: David Lewis' ability to relate to students, engaging with them in ways that put students at ease, results in his students gaining a greater understanding of Project Maths. His teaching methods are unique and are tailored to the Project Maths Syllabus, meaning he is a specialised Project Maths teacher. David is a member of the Irish Mathematics Teachers’ Association, and is specialised in providing students with a clear, fundamental understanding of the syllabus.

This course will ensure students get the most marks possible in a tricky, no-choice exam where all questions must be answered. Students will study topics from all three sciences, with an emphasis on the following:
