At the Dublin Academy of Education we ensure that our students focus is not only on academics but also on the development of their person as a whole during their time with us. We organise several events throughout the school year for students to interact and socialise within the school environment. It is our goal for students to have a well-rounded school experience with us, below you will find a snapshot of some of the initiatives that are an integral part of Academy life.

6th Year Breakfast

On Friday 17th May our 5th year students held a surprise ‘Farewell Breakfast’ for our current 6th year students. The morning was a great success, with a committee of several 5th years and their Year Head Lisa Fitzpatrick managing the planning in advance.

A selection of pastries, fresh fruit, yoghurt and juices were served and there were also several speakers. Our Principal Michael Ruaidhri Deasy presented each 6th year with a framed group picture from their recent graduation. This presented a lovely opportunity for the students to sign each other frames and create a memento of their time at the Academy.

6th Year Graduation

We hold a graduation ceremony for each 6th year class at the Academy. The 2019 graduation ceremony was hosted in the Talbot hotel, with a champagne reception and canapes on arrival for parents.

Reflecting on the Academy’s first year as a full time school, our Founder Chris Lauder said:

“You can just feel the positivity, the energy and the enthusiasm from the moment you set foot in the school. It’s electrifying. And that’s all down to the great student body we’re so lucky to have here at the Academy. As our first ever intake of students, I can tell you, you’ve set the bar incredibly high”.

Careers Day

On Wednesday 9th January 2019 the Academy held it’s first Careers Day for 5th and 6th Year students. The day was jam-packed with a variety of speakers from different industries. Some of our speakers on the day included those from fields such as Law, Medicine, Finance, Education Fitness, and Marketing.

The day was an interactive way for students to get a greater understanding of different areas of study and also discover career paths they may not have considered before. Feedback from the day was excellent and we look forward to hosting many more events like this for our students!

The most popular talk on the day covered studying Law and the various career paths it can lead to. The students heard from two different speakers from two different areas of the legal profession. Stuart McCarron spoke to the students about life working as a solicitor in the fast-paced law firm McCann Fitzgerald. Next up was John O’Regan, to share a different perspective, life working as a Barrister. Overall, the students were given a good overview of what it is like to actually study law as a college course and also the challenges and opportunities, once you have achieved that law degree!
