English

This course is built on the fact that almost half of all the questions students will be answering on is material that they have never seen before. Students will receive fully worked notes and past paper examples of the most popular questions. All notes place a heavy emphasis on the value of understanding the marking scheme, and on using that knowledge to write a well-structured answer for the examiner.

Gavin Cowzer: English
Gavin is considered to be one of the leading Classical Studies and English teachers in Ireland. Having a strong passion for the subjects, including obtaining a Master’s degree, Gavin’s style of teaching covers the syllabus in a clear and concise way, giving students the tools they need to successfully manage the likely exam questions. He has experience correcting exams, which gives his students an edge in a subject which is often assumed to be an art. Over the years, Gavin has developed a strict method to doing well in the English exam, which consistently helps his students reach great results.

Irish

This course is designed with the key objective of making this exam more approachable for students through developing clever answering techniques which will cover them for any question which may appear in June. Students will receive an exam day plan highlighting the DOs and DON’Ts for exam day, focusing on simple methods that they can use to raise their grade.

About the Teacher : Séadhan Perry is specialised in providing students with a clear, fundamental understanding of the syllabus and marking scheme. His teaching style is focused on covering the curriculum in a concise way so that students have the tools to successfully manage the likely exam questions. Séadhan is a popular teacher due to his ability to stimulate students' interest in the subject. Séadhan has worked with the state examinations commission correcting exam papers and last year was an Oral examiner for the leaving certificate. He has also taught in the Gaeltacht in Coláiste Ciarán and Coláise Ó Direáin.

Maths

By the time you leave this course you will have 285 past and likely exam questions, including fully worked solutions. Students also receive five booklets (one for each of the five sections of the syllabus). You will benefit greatly from a set of notes called ‘The Holy Grail’, which outlines how to take advantage of the marking scheme. Note: Students will also receive Carl’s predictions for Junior Certificate.

About the Teacher : Having worked for the State Examination Commission, Carl brings his reputation as an authority on the Maths Syllabus to The Academy. As a member of the Irish Mathematics Teachers' Association, he is a popular teacher amongst students due to his mastery of the Project Maths Syllabus, and is well-known for his ability to stimulate students' interest in Maths.

Science

This course will ensure students get the most marks possible in a tricky, no choice exam where all questions must be answered. Students will study topics from all three sciences over the five days receiving The Academy comprehensive revision pack (a set of nine handouts of need to know material which condenses the wide course into a manageable amount). All notes are complete with every past paper question, a necessity before tackling this exam.

About the Teacher : David Lewis' ability to relate to students, engaging with them in ways that put students at ease, results in his students gaining a greater understanding of the Science syllabus. As an examination corrector, David is adept at understanding the mistakes for which students frequently lose marks. He is the author of several sample examination papers.
